The debate over restaurant service

The debate over restaurant service

Timing is everything.  According to a recent Washington Post article, it’s the difference between a great meal and a dining experience that left a bad taste in your mouth. The recent trend of clearing plates the moment guests have finished dining, rather than waiting until all guests have finished, as has long been the service custom, led the writer to call it “the most annoying restaurant trend happening today.”

At Bucuti & Tara Beach Resorts, we consider ourselves a place of leisure and we aim to extend that atmosphere to our fine dining restaurants. We believe in a more traditional style of service. Whether dining in our oceanfront restaurant Elements or partaking in the special nightly seating at Carte Blanche, your dining experience is designed to fully enjoy the ambiance, the food and the company at the table, at your leisure. We understand that you’re on vacation; our servers are not focused on turning tables, which seems to be the “new” timing of service that many Americans have become accustomed to.

The chef’s table Carte Blanche is a dining experience that starts at 7:00 p.m. and ends at 11:00 p.m.  At our oceanfront Elements Restaurant, reservations are accepted between 6:00 and 10:00pm

For those who are seeking faster service or a quick meal, we recommend you take advantage of the menu we offer at SandBar, our beach bar adjacent to Elements Restaurant. Or simply advise the restaurant staff that you are in a rush and they will work with the kitchen to try to comply and suggest dishes that are faster to prepare.  Our Salad and Appetizer bar is also a quick option to consider. At Elements, the service is based on European style, which harkens back to traditional restaurant etiquette.  Plates are lowered and raised together for everyone at the table and coffee cups and water glasses remain on the table until guests have departed.  More time is allowed between courses and the diners journey together through the dining experience. We encourage our guests to relax and dine at leisure.

Rest assured our restaurant servers won’t hover like vultures to clear your plates; tranquility and peace are in our nature. Take your time and enjoy the oceanfront ambiance, conversation, our chef’s delicious dishes and our extensive wine list.
