Operating in a water-scarce environment, Bucuti & Tara takes a leadership role in responsible water stewardship, saving 3.5 million gallons of water on a yearly basis by using grey water into irrigation and other water saving technologies in bathrooms, kitchen and laundry. The resort treats and provides safe water throughout the property using UVC technology and avoids toxic chemicals in its water treatment processes, safeguarding the health of guests, associates, and the surrounding ecosystem.

Recognizing the energy-intensive nature of tourism, Bucuti & Tara actively transitions away from fossil fuels by investing in renewable energy and energy efficiency, the property has the largest private sector solar panels installation in Aruba, which represents 20% of our electricity consumption. Due to grit stability, we are currently not allowed to produce more. However, we have sustainable alternatives, like gym equipment producing electricity for the resort.
Through initiatives such as the Solar for Associates Program and Green Loans, the resort supports access to clean energy for its associates while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and advancing Aruba’s low-carbon transition.
Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort is since 2018, the first and only Certified Carbon Neutral resort in the Caribbean.

Ewald Biemans, owner and founder of Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort has bought 32 acres of land for his reforestation project, named Bucuti Tara - GMC Nature Preserve. This piece of land is a gift to the island and service as a place where staff and locals can enjoy pure Aruban flora and fauna in an area that has been overdeveloped in the last decade. This way, Bucuti & Tara is able to work on a more sustainable island and a more comfortable place to live.

Bucuti & Tara follows a strict Environmental Purchasing Policy that prioritizes trusted, ethical, and local suppliers. The resort actively reduces waste through portion control, food waste prevention strategies, and continuous staff training on responsible preparation practices, minimizing environmental impact across its operations.
Over the years, Bucuti & Tara have been able to reduce waste by 65%, by buying locally and in bulk and because we eliminated single use plastic and amenities in the room. Food waste has been reduced by 35%, and all food waste left, is going to local farmers. On water consumption, we safe over 3.5 million gallons of water, due to smart water saving systems installed in each room.

As the Caribbean’s first certified CarbonNeutral® resort, Bucuti & Tara takes comprehensive climate action by reducing emissions at the source by more than 62% since 2021 and offsetting unavoidable emissions responsibly. Initiatives such as the Bucuti Tara – GMC Nature Preserve act as natural carbon sinks, supporting ecosystem restoration and long-term climate resilience.
Added to these great achievements, the resort eliminated fossil fuel in the kitchens, and is now working toward a full fossil fuel free operation by Q1 in 2026.

To protect the underwater life, Bucuti & Tara has also been hosting beach clean-ups for over 32 years on the 3rd Wednesday of each month. Bucuti & Tara actively supports marine conservation through partnerships with organizations such as Turtugaruba and the Aruba Conservation Foundation. These collaborations focus on sea turtle protection, nesting and hatching conservation, mangrove restoration, and coral reef rehabilitation, safeguarding marine biodiversity.

To address biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation, Bucuti & Tara established the Bucuti Tara – GMC Nature Preserve. This protected area of 32 acres supports habitat restoration, native species conservation, and sustainable land use, reinforcing the resort’s commitment to protecting terrestrial ecosystems. Since 2022 we've planted more than 1300 native trees which helped to see native animals coming back to their natural habitat, being an indicator as a result of our work.
