Aruba Achieved 100% Spay & Neuter Coverage, A Look Back at 2025 and 46,342 Lives Changed
In 2025, a vision set in motion nearly a decade ago reached a defining moment: full spay and neuter cost coverage is now available island-wide for all dogs and cats through the national program led by the Stimami Sterilisami Foundation, a foundation established by Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort in 2016. Even more meaningfully, every stay at Bucuti & Tara plays a direct role in making this impact possible, helping fund a program that protects animals, improves public health, and strengthens Aruba’s communities.
This historic achievement was also supported by key partners, including the Aruba Tourism Authority (ATA), the Tourism Product Enhancement Fund (TPEF), and generous donors such as the One Love Foundation, AHATA, Setar, and others who share the vision for a more humane Aruba.
Today, we are proud to share another remarkable number that reflects just how far Aruba has come: 46,342 cats and dogs have now been spayed and neutered.
This number represents far more than statistics. It reflects tens of thousands of animals spared from hardship and a major step toward a more humane, sustainable future for Aruba.
Why 100% Spay and Neuter Coverage Matters
Covering 100% of the cost of each spay and neuter procedure, removes financial barriers and means that Aruba has moved from responding to overpopulation to preventing it. It reduces the number of animals born into suffering, lowers risks of disease and injury, and helps break the cycle of stray populations growing faster than communities can support them.
Consistent spay and neuter programs create a lasting positive impact, including:
-
Fewer stray cats and dogs living in vulnerable conditions
-
Reduced strain on shelters, rescue organizations, and veterinary services
-
Lower risks of disease, injury, and neglect among animals
-
Increased public safety and improved community health
-
Stronger environmental protection and reduced impact on wildlife
Aruba’s progress is an example of a humane approach that benefits animals, people, and the island as a whole.
A Look Back at 2025: How Aruba Got Here
This milestone did not happen overnight. Stimami Sterilisami's success is the result of years of consistent efforts, education, and support from individuals and organizations dedicated to ending animal overpopulation humanely.
It has required:
-
Ongoing access to spay and neuter services
-
Public awareness campaigns encouraging responsible pet ownership
-
Outreach and long-term prevention strategies
-
Cooperation between local communities, the government and animal welfare partners
-
A shared vision focused on lasting change rather than quick fixes
2025 stands as proof that the strategy works. Aruba’s sustained commitment has created real improvement and lasting transformation.
Why Spay and Neuter Programs Benefit the Entire Island
Spay and neuter programs help more than animals. They support public health, community wellbeing, and tourism sustainability. Reducing stray populations contributes to cleaner neighborhoods, fewer animal-related health risks, and a stronger balance between animals, people, and the environment.
By preventing suffering and reducing overpopulation, Aruba is creating:
-
Safer communities for residents and visitors
-
Cleaner public spaces and reduced stray animal concerns
-
More stable animal populations and healthier pets
-
Reduced pressure on rescue groups and animal care infrastructure
-
Positive sustainability impact across the island
This achievement reflects Aruba’s commitment not only to animal welfare, but to responsible, sustainable island living.
Protecting the Progress: Why the Work Continues
Reaching 100% coverage is a landmark achievement, but maintaining it requires continued focus and long-term support. Spay and neuter work does not end once a milestone is reached. It must continue to ensure access, education, and prevention remain strong, especially as new pets are born, adopted, or brought to the island.
The difference is that thanks to Stimami Sterilisami, Aruba is now leading with prevention instead of reaction. This is how lasting change is created.
How You Can Support Aruba’s Animal Welfare Success
Anyone who feels inspired by Stimami Sterilisami's progress can play a role in maintaining these gains. Supporting animal welfare organizations, promoting adoption and responsible pet ownership, and spreading awareness all contribute to the continued success of spay and neuter initiatives.
Meaningful ways to help include:
- Giving a donation to Stimami Sterilisami to support its national spay and neuter program. 100% of the funds donated to Stimami Sterilisami are used to cover the cost of spay and neuter procedures. The foundation's books are open and audited, and to find out how to make a donation visit www.stimamisterilisami.com or email us at info@bucuti.com.
-
Sharing education on the importance of spay and neuter prevention.
-
Helping fund or support outreach programs that provide accessible veterinary services.
-
Promoting humane animal welfare practices during travel and community involvement.
Every contribution helps sustain the progress made in 2025 and ensures Aruba continues to lead by example.
Looking Ahead: A Stronger Future for Aruba’s Animals
As Aruba reflects on 2025, the achievement of 100% spay and neuter coverage and 46,342 cats and dogs spayed and neutered to date stands as proof of what long-term compassion and collective action can accomplish.
This milestone is not only a victory for animals. It is also a victory for Aruba’s sustainability, community health, and the values that define the island.
Aruba’s story is still being written, and the future has never looked more hopeful.
