A Green Halloween at Bucuti
PUMPKIN CARVING & HALLOWEEN COSTUME CONTEST AT BUCUTI BEACH RESORT
October, 2008- The Green Team of the Bucuti Beach Resort held its third annual pumpkin carving and costume contest today. Staffers displayed their creative use of recycled materials to make their creations. A total of 10 pumpkins and 4 costumes were prepared and submitted to a panel of voluntary judges, consisting of Bucuti Beach Resort guests from Holland, Germany, England and the United States. The judges reviewed these imaginative pumpkins and the creative costumes to determine the winners.
The maintenance department submitted a pumpkin sitting on a swing from discarded decking material with ears made from energy efficient light bulbs, made by Izahr which took first prize. Anchi Werleman from the Pirates' Nest took first prize for the costume that she made from a discarded apron and a wig made of restaurant receipts.
Bucuti Beach Resort, a Green Globe 21 and ISO 14001 Certified Resort, strives to involve its staff and guests in many environmental awareness activities, including monthly beach clean ups, the Sponsor-a-Mile Program and focus groups.
