Bucuti Beach Resort Associates Recognized for Outstanding Contributions to Hospitality Industry

EAGLE BEACH, Aruba - December 18, 2008- Two of Bucuti Beach Resort's shining stars have just been recognized for their outstanding service with Shoco Awards of Excellence presented by the Aruba Hotel and Tourism Association (AHATA). Bucuti's Bernice Dennis and Marguerita Osebourne proudly accepted the coveted titles of Employee of the Year and Supervisor of the Year Runner-Up, respectively, during a ceremony held December 3.

The Shoco Awards of Excellence is AHATA's official recognition program focusing on excellence in service, hospitality and outstanding contribution to the sustainability of Aruba's tourism industry.

"More than 15,000 hotel employees support tourism on the island, making the Shoco Awards a highly esteemed recognition," said Bucuti's Director of Sales and Marketing Susan Biemans. "We are so proud that these special members of the Bucuti family have been acknowledged for their efforts. It is well deserved."

Bernice Dennis, Employee of the Year Bernice has been a member of Bucuti's housekeeping team for more than 16 years, and her dedicated work ethic has paid off. Bernice makes the 45-minute bus trip into work each morning from San Nicolas and is never without her signature broad smile.

Bernice was selected as Employee of the Year because of the pride she takes in her job. She has been described by superiors and peers as professional, personable, caring and consistent. Because of her level of professionalism, Bernice is often in charge of training new associates. She also gives back by participating in resort-sponsored monthly beach clean-ups.

While off duty, Bernice lives modestly and helps support her extended family in St. Vincent. She regularly cooks for her neighbors and cares for homeless pets. Her compassion for others extends into her responsibilities at Bucuti as well.

"Bernice can always impress even the most demanding of guests," said Biemans. "She checks to make sure all guests are pleased with the resort. Because of the high standards she upholds, many return guests request her by name."

Marguerita Osebourne, Supervisor of the Year (runner-up) Since 2002, Marguerita has made a noteworthy and positive impact at Bucuti. As supervisor of the Tara Lounge and Mini Bar operations, she has exhibited the qualities of a top leader. She frequently meets to discuss the resort's financial performance and is able to offer feedback and direction to management. As a supervisor, she assists with recruits and interviewing. Her staff retention rate is high, which is a testament to her management skills.

"Marguerita can naturally inspire," said Biemans. "She has the ability to see the big picture and can bring groups of people together."

She also brings people back. Both Marguerita and Bernice go out of their way to encourage return visits and, thanks in part to these types of efforts, the resort maintains an occupancy rate of more than 90 percent year round.
