Steven Mlodinow was born in Chicago in 1962. He became obsessed by wildlife and especially birdwatching at a very young age. Steven later obtained a degree in biochemistry from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, and then proceeded onto medical school. In the meantime, his first book, Chicago Area Birds was published. photo

After finishing medical school, Steven completed a residency program in Family Medicine at Long Beach Memorial Hospital, met his wonderful wife, Eloise, and then settled in the Pacific Northwest in Everett, Washington. He has happily practiced family medicine there ever since. He also has subsequently published two more books: America's 100 Most Wanted Birds and Birds of Washington.

He first came to Aruba to attend a medical conference and fell in love with this most friendly of places. The lack of previous ornithological Attention and a fair shake of good luck also allowed him to discover six species of birds not previously detected on Aruba. Such fortune did little to dampen the love affair, and he and his wife plan on returning many times.
